The Bacon Bar was a quirky little restaurant in Las Vegas that quickly became a popular spot thanks to its unique bacon-focused menu. However, in recent years some visitors have been wondering – is the Bacon Bar in Vegas still open today?
I decided to investigate this question myself to get to the bottom of whether this legendary Vegas eatery is still in business Here’s what I found out
A Brief History of the Bacon Bar
First opening its doors in 2016, the Bacon Bar made a splash by offering a menu packed with creative bacon dishes and cocktails. From bacon flights to chocolate-covered bacon on a stick, this place was a haven for bacon lovers visiting Sin City.
Touted as the “world’s first bacon-themed restaurant,” the Bacon Bar leaned hard into its pork-centric concept From the decor to the dishes, everything was bacon, bacon, bacon
In its first couple years, the restaurant garnered buzz and developed a following among tourists and locals alike. The concept was a hit.
But a few years in, reviews and reports about the restaurant became more mixed. Some visitors raved about the unique menu and fun bacon creations. Others felt the quality had gone downhill, complaining about poor service, high prices, and mediocre food.
By 2019 and 2020, Yelp reviews averaged around just 2.5 stars as the restaurant seemed to lose some of its luster. Locals in particular recommended better places to get your fix of bacon treats rather than making a special trip to the tourist-oriented Bacon Bar.
Checking in on the Bacon Bar in 2022
So what about now – is the Bacon Bar still cooking up bacon deliciousness in 2022?
Unfortunately, it seems the Bacon Bar has likely closed down permanently.
Checking the restaurant’s official Facebook page, the last post was made in April of 2019. Additionally, their website is defunct. These are not great signs for a restaurant still being open.
I also called the phone number listed for the Bacon Bar and it was disconnected.
On Yelp, the Bacon Bar is listed as “permanently closed.” A check of Google shows the business listed as “closed.”
Digging further, there are reviews dated as recently as November 2021 from visitors saying the Bacon Bar was closed with brown paper lining the windows.
Overall, all signs point to the Bacon Bar no longer being in operation. It appears this once-popular Vegas eatery has shuttered for good.
Why Did The Bacon Bar Close?
So what led to the demise of the Bacon Bar? A few key factors seem to have contributed:
-
Novelty wearing off – While a novel concept at first, interest in a bacon-centric menu likely started to wane after the initial buzz. Without changing up the menu, the novelty may have worn thin.
-
Quality and service issues – Numerous reviews complained about poor service, small portions, and food that wasn’t fresh or well-executed. This likely hurt business over time.
-
Tourist trap reputation – As a spot located right on the Vegas strip, the Bacon Bar gained a reputation as a tourist trap with mediocre food at high prices. Locals stayed away.
-
Tough location – The restaurant was located right on the Vegas strip which likely came with very high rents. The location may have become too costly.
-
COVID-19 pandemic – The pandemic devastated the Vegas restaurant and tourism industry. The Bacon Bar may have not been able to survive long shutdowns and reduced tourism.
While the Bacon Bar concept showed initial promise, it seems like poor execution and the challenges of a tourist-focused restaurant in Vegas led to its closure after just a few years in business. The sizzling hype around this bacon-themed spot ultimately seemed to fizzle out.
