Turkey and cheese sliders are the perfect easy appetizer or meal for feeding a crowd. These bite-sized sandwiches come together quickly with simple ingredients. Follow this step-by-step guide to learn how to make flavorful turkey and cheese sliders at home.

Ingredients Needed

To make turkey and cheese sliders, you will need:

  • Slider buns or rolls – Hawaiian rolls, dinner rolls or mini buns work well. You need 2 rolls per slider.

  • Sliced deli turkey – Use about 2-3 ounces of turkey per slider, thinly sliced.

  • Cheese slices – Most popular are cheddar, Swiss, provolone or mozzarella.

  • Butter – For brushing on the rolls before baking

  • Seasonings – Such as garlic powder, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.

  • Condiments (optional) – Mayo, mustard, ketchup, ranch dressing, etc.

Prep the Ingredients

  1. Cut the rolls – Use a serrated knife to slice the rolls in half horizontally. Gently cut so the rolls keep their shape.

  2. Slice the cheese – If using block cheese, slice it into pieces that will cover the rolls

  3. Slice the turkey – Get thin, even slices of turkey about the same size as the rolls.

  4. Make flavored butter – Melt butter and mix in desired seasonings like garlic, parsley, oregano, etc.

Assemble the Sliders

  1. Layer bottom bun – Place roll bottoms cut-side up on a baking sheet.

  2. Add turkey – Top each roll bottom with 2-3 slices of turkey.

  3. Top with cheese – Lay a cheese slice on each turkey portion.

  4. Add roll top – Complete the sandwiches with the roll tops.

  5. Brush with butter – Use a pastry brush to coat the top of each assembled slider with the flavored butter.

  6. Add condiments (optional) – Spread or drizzle mustard, mayo, ketchup, etc. on roll bottoms first.

Bake the Sliders

  1. Preheat oven – Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. Bake sliders – Place baking sheet with assembled sliders in oven.

  3. Bake time – Bake for 12-15 minutes until rolls are toasted and cheese melted.

  4. Rest – Let sit 5 minutes before serving.

Serving Suggestions

There are many great ways to serve baked turkey and cheese sliders:

  • Appetizer plate – Arrange sliders on a serving platter with pickles, lettuce, and condiments on the side.

  • Slider bar – Set out baked sliders alongside toppings and let guests customize their own.

  • Dinner entree – Pair sliders with a salad, fries, fruit, or chips for an easy meal.

  • Potluck or party – Keep warm in a slow cooker or chafing dish for buffet-style events.

  • Packed lunch – Individually wrap cooled sliders to take to work or school.

Flavor Variations

The basic turkey and cheese slider is very versatile. You can customize them with different add-ins:

  • Different cheese – Cheddar, pepper jack, muenster, provolone, etc.

  • Extra meat – Ham, bacon, roast beef.

  • Vegetables – Lettuce, tomato, onion, roasted red peppers.

  • Sauces – Pesto, chili sauce, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing.

  • Seasonings – Everything bagel seasoning, cajun seasoning, Italian herbs.

  • Bread – Pretzel rolls, ciabatta, croissants, potato rolls.

Storage and Reheating

Leftover assembled sliders can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. To reheat, place in a 350°F oven for 5-10 minutes until warmed through. Microwaving works too but can make the bread soggy. You can also freeze baked sliders for longer storage.

How To Make Turkey and Swiss Cheese Sliders:

Start by taking your Hawaiian rolls out of the package, keeping them intact. Use a long knife to cut them down the center so you have a section of the tops of the rolls and the bottoms of the rolls.

Spray a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray and place the bottom halves of the rolls in the pan.

Combine a half cup of honey mustard and a half cup of mayonnaise in a bowl, then spread half the mixture on top of the rolls in the pan.

Layer some deli sliced turkey and Swiss cheese on top of the rolls in the pan. I ended up having about 2-3 slices of turkey stacked on top of each other and then one slice of cheese on top.

Spread the rest of the honey mustard mixture on the inside of the top halves of the rolls, then carefully place on top.

These rolls have a delicious buttery, honey mustard topping. To make the topping, whisk together 1/4 cup melted butter, 1/4 cup honey mustard, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce and a tablespoon of poppy seeds.

11) Place in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until rolls are golden brown and cheese has melted.

Pour the poppy seed mixture on top of the sliders and spread around using a spoon or rubber spatula.

Bake for 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees F, until the rolls start to turn golden brown and the cheese is melted.

Cut into individual sliders and serve.
