Making turkey soup in an Instant Pot is a quick and easy way to transform your leftovers into a new meal the whole family will love. In this article, we’ll explore some of the best Instant Pot turkey soup recipes to warm you up this season.
Why Make Instant Pot Turkey Soup?
Using an Instant Pot to make turkey soup has many advantages. The Instant Pot’s pressure cooking function significantly reduces cooking time compared to traditional stovetop methods. This allows you to get dinner on the table fast without compromising flavor. The Instant Pot also draws out flavors from the turkey bones and infuses the broth, resulting in a rich, savory soup base. Best of all, cleanup is minimal with just the Instant Pot inner pot to wash instead of multiple pots and pans.
Making turkey soup in the Instant Pot couldn’t be easier. Simply throw your ingredients like turkey, vegetables broth and seasonings into the Instant Pot and let it do the work. Within 30-40 minutes, you’ll have a steaming pot of homemade turkey soup ready to ladle into bowls and enjoy.

Helpful Tips for Instant Pot Turkey Soup
-
For maximum flavor, try to use homemade turkey broth. Simmer the turkey bones and scraps to create your own stock.
-
Mix white and dark turkey meat for better texture and moisture in the soup.
-
Avoid overcooking for tender, juicy turkey pieces. The Instant Pot’s quick cooking times help prevent dried out turkey.
-
To cut down on dishes, sauté aromatics like onion, celery, garlic and herbs right in the Instant Pot before adding other ingredients.
-
Letting the pressure release naturally before opening helps infuse flavors. A quick release can cause broth to sputter out.
-
Add tender vegetables like peas, spinach or even pre-cooked potatoes near the end to prevent overcooking.
-
Adjust seasonings like salt, pepper and herbs before serving as the flavors concentrate while cooking.

What’s to love about this turkey soup recipe:
Use up leftovers: I love a good turkey sandwich stuffed with sausage, but sometimes we all need something different. And there’s nothing better than a hot bowl of soup to get you through the day! ▪️This soup tastes great because it has fresh herbs, onions, and garlic in it. ▪️Light & healthy: After a day or two of feasting, it’s time to stop the madness. This soup is low in calories and high in protein. Serve with a fall salad for an extra dose of veggies.
What you need for this Instant Pot Turkey Soup:
See recipe card below for full ingredients list & recipe directions.
These are the main ingredients needed for this recipe:
- Turkey: You can use that Thanksgiving turkey in this recipe, but it also works well with rotisserie chicken or leftover turkey. I use a 50/50 mixture of light and dark meat.
- Egg noodles are the traditional noodles for this kind of soup, but you can use any kind of pasta you like. You can choose from fusilli (corkscrews), farfalle (bowties), or even elbow macaroni. Cook until the pasta is al dente.
- Broth: For this recipe, homemade turkey broth is by far the best choice. Another thing that store-bought chicken broth just can’t do is match the flavor of homemade turkey stock. Still, this soup tastes GREAT with chicken broth.
- When you start this soup, add onions, carrots, celery, and garlic to a standard mirepoix to make it taste great.
- Herbs: I used a mix of fresh sage, thyme, and rosemary because that’s what I usually have left over in the fridge the day after Christmas or Thanksgiving. Thyme and rosemary that are dried work well if you don’t have fresh, but fresh sage is the best. I’ve found that it tastes much better than dried sage from the store.
- Other seasoning: Season with kosher salt and ground pepper. Make sure you taste the soup before you serve it and add more seasoning if you think it needs it.
