If you have made this recipe – club crackers, parmesian cheese then wrapped wtih bacon – then baked. how many days ahead of the event can these be made?.
I made them a few years ago and can’t remember how I kept them or how long before the event I baked them. thanks.
Bacon wrapped crackers are a delicious and easy appetizer that can be made ahead of time. However, reheating them while maintaining texture and taste can be tricky. Here are some tips for reheating bacon wrapped crackers perfectly every time.
Why Reheating Bacon Wrapped Crackers is Challenging
There are a few factors that make reheating bacon wrapped crackers challenging
-
The bacon – Bacon can quickly go from crisp to rubbery and chewy if reheated improperly.
-
The cracker – Crackers can lose their crunch and become soggy if they absorb too much moisture when reheated.
-
The cheese – Melted cheese can separate or turn grainy if overheated
With some care, all of these potential pitfalls can be avoided.
Best Methods for Reheating
Oven
The oven is the best way to reheat bacon wrapped crackers for a crowd while maintaining texture. Follow these steps:
-
Preheat oven to 300°F.
-
Place crackers in a single layer on a baking sheet. Make sure crackers are not touching each other.
-
Bake for 5-7 minutes until warmed through.
-
Bacon should be slightly crisped and cheese should be melted.
-
Serve immediately for maximum crispness.
Baking allows the crackers to heat gently and evenly. The low temp and short cooking time prevents the cheese from breaking down and the bacon from getting rubbery.
Air Fryer
An air fryer can also do a great job reheating bacon wrapped crackers. Follow these steps:
-
Preheat air fryer to 300°F.
-
Place crackers in air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they are not touching.
-
Cook for 3-5 minutes, shaking basket halfway through.
-
Bacon should be crispy and cheese melted when done.
-
Serve right away for best texture.
The air fryer’s hot circulating air crisps up the bacon beautifully. Just be careful not to overcook.
Microwave
The microwave can be used to quickly reheat a small batch of bacon wrapped crackers:
-
Place crackers on a microwave-safe plate in a single layer.
-
Microwave on medium power (50%) for 45 seconds.
-
Let stand 1 minute then check texture.
-
Microwave 15-30 seconds more if needed.
-
Bacon should be slightly crispy and cheese melted.
Microwaving can make the crackers rubbery, so only heat what you plan to eat right away. Stand time allows heat to distribute evenly.
Skillet
If you only need to reheat a few bacon wrapped crackers, a skillet works well:
-
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat.
-
Add crackers in a single layer.
-
Cook 1-2 minutes per side until warmed through.
-
Flip carefully with a spatula to keep crackers intact.
The direct heat crisps up the bacon while the low temperature prevents burning.
Toaster Oven
A toaster oven can be used similarly to a regular oven:
-
Preheat to 300°F.
-
Place crackers on tray in single layer.
-
Toast 3-5 minutes until hot.
-
Check frequently to avoid burning.
The smaller toaster oven size facilitates even heating. Just watch carefully, as crackers can burn quickly.
Storing and Freezing Tips
Properly storing your bacon wrapped crackers is key for successful reheating later on. Here are some tips:
-
Allow to cool completely after baking before storing.
-
Place in a single layer on a plate or tray, separating with parchment paper.
-
Cover tightly with plastic wrap or foil. This prevents them from drying out.
-
Refrigerate for 2-3 days maximum.
-
For longer storage, freeze for up to 1 month. Thaw overnight in fridge before reheating.
If frozen properly in an airtight container, the crackers can go straight into a 300°F oven from frozen state. No need to thaw first.
Common Questions
Should I brush crackers with oil or butter before reheating?
This is not necessary if the crackers were freshly baked and properly stored. The small amount of fat from the bacon is sufficient to reheat them. Adding more can make them greasy.
Should I reheat the crackers unwrapped?
It’s best to keep them wrapped, as the bacon helps retain moisture in the cracker as it reheats. Unwrapped, they would dry out quickly.
Can I reheat them directly on the oven rack?
It’s best to use a baking sheet to prevent grease drips and facilitate even heating. The crackers’ delicate texture can also break apart if placed directly on the oven rack.
What temperature should I reheat them at?
Low, gentle heat between 250°F and 300°F works best. High heat risks burning the cheese and making the bacon tough.
Get Creative with Additions
While the classic parmesan-bacon combo is always a crowd pleaser, get creative by trying these tasty add-ins before baking or reheating your crackers:
- Fresh herbs like rosemary, thyme or chives
- Minced garlic
- Spices like paprika or cayenne
- Other cheeses such as cheddar, gouda or bleu
- Caramelized onions or crispy pancetta
- A brush of barbecue sauce or hot sauce
The options are endless for customizing these tasty bite-sized appetizers!

Re: bacon wrapped club crackers
I have made these a few times and only make them right before serving. I think they might not last long because the crackers soak up so much of the bacon grease. I have never had any leftover so cant say how well they keep. You could assemble them earlier in the day but bake them just before serving. If you make them ahead of time, I’m not sure if they will reheat well or not. They don’t have to be hot when you serve them. I usually place mine on a warming tray after I bake them.
