These days, Walkers has been making a lot of changes to its crisp line-up. Some beloved products have been taken off the shelves and new ones have been added.
Fans were devastated when they found out that the “phenomenal” Oven Baked with Veg Beetroot and Sweet Chilli Jam crisps would no longer be sold.
Also, Mature Cheddar and two new Sensations flavors were seen on store shelves. 50 for a 150g bag.
But there’s one pack in particular that a lot of people really want to see back on store shelves, and the big crisp company just shared an update on it.
People on social media have been pleading for the “best crisps ever to exist,” which they say are the Sensations Mexican Fiery Sweet Chipotle flavor, to come back.
When they first came out in the early 2010s, the crisps were said to taste like deep, smoky chipotle chili with sweet pimento pepper and onion. And Walkers claimed they left a ‘spicy lingering heat’.
People who tried them are still having a hard time getting over the fact that they’re no longer available, even though they were taken off the market a few years ago.
On X fans have hailed the taste as ‘unbelievably good’ and ‘amazing’. While @ShaplaHoque1 confessed she ‘missed’ the crisps everyday.
@DarthMoII said she was ready to do anything to get her hands on the crisps again, writing: “Walkers bring back them Mexican Fiery Sweet Chipotle please I’ll remortgage my house.” @StutterMedia28 said they were one of the “best flavors by Walkers crisps to date” and gave them an impressive 10/10 rating. ’.
Similarly @guffjuice posted: ‘Please bring back Mexican Fiery Sweet Chipotle flavour. Those were poppin’. Hands down the best of all time and humanity misses them. ’.
Fans have been just as excited on Facebook. Dave Downes called the crisps “bliss,” and Ian Tindale lamented that you couldn’t find them in stores, saying, “I mean, what were they thinking?! It’s the greatest crisp on earth!”
Have Walkers Beef and Onion Crisps Been Discontinued?
Walkers beef and onion crisps have been a beloved snack for crisp lovers in the UK for over a decade. Known for their tangy onion taste and hints of hearty roast beef flavor this iconic crisp variety offered the perfect balance of flavors in a classic pub snack. But recently, fans have been distraught to find this staple Walkers flavor missing from store shelves – leading many to ask have Walkers beef and onion crisps been discontinued?
Unfortunately, the answer seems to be yes. After speculation mounted among disappointed crisp enthusiasts, Walkers finally confirmed that their beef and onion flavor crisps were discontinued as of 2021.
The Sad Demise of a Walkers Fan Favorite
For years, Walkers beef and onion could be readily found in any local supermarket or corner store in their recognizable brown packaging. Offering a savory, meaty taste with mellow onion undertones, these crisps were beloved as the ideal accompaniment to a pint at the pub. Their balanced profile of flavors made beef and onion a go-to crisp flavor for snackers across generations.
But eagle-eyed shoppers have recently reported not being able to find these crisps on shelves – replaced instead with other Walkers varieties. When repeatedly questioned about the sudden absence of the beef and onion crisps, Walkers finally acknowledged that this variety had indeed been permanently discontinued last year.
Understandably, this news has outraged and dismayed longtime fans who have relied on Walkers beef and onion crisps as a satisfying snack. The disappearance of this crisp staple leaves a pronounced hole in the snack aisle, leaving devotees to mourn the loss of their beloved crisps.
Public Outrage from Loyal Crisp Enthusiasts
Across social media, heartbroken crisp lovers have voiced their horror and protests over Walkers’ decision to axe beef and onion crisps. Angry consumers have flocked to Twitter and Facebook to express their outrage, demanding that Walkers reverse course and bring back this treasured flavor.
Reactions range from incredulous to indignant. Popular responses include:
-
“Noooo, beef and onion was my favorite! Why would you discontinue such a classic flavor?”
-
“What am I supposed to eat with my sandwich now? Bring back beef and onion immediately!”
-
“This is an outrage. Beef and onion deserves to stay forever – it’s iconic!”
-
“Never buying Walkers again until you restore beef and onion. You’ve made a powerful enemy.”
-
“Beef and onion was the ONLY reason I bought Walkers. Guess I’ll switch to Sensations now.”
Some disgruntled crisp fans have even gone as far as starting online petitions and campaigns to have Walkers beef and onion reinstated. But so far, their pleas to “bring back beef and onion” have gone unheeded.
Why Would Walkers Discontinue Such a Beloved Flavor?
While Walkers has yet to release an official statement explaining their reasoning, food industry experts speculate on what may have motivated this controversial decision:
-
Declining sales performance – beef and onion may have become a weaker seller compared to more popular flavors.
-
Higher manufacturing costs – specialty flavors can be pricier to continue producing at scale.
-
Streamlining product range – cutting smaller product lines allows focus on core offerings.
-
Flavor innovation – making room for new experimental flavors on shelves.
-
Marketing pivots – shifting brand image away from traditional meat flavors.
-
Recipe changes – production process evolutions may have impacted flavor.
-
Availability issues – ingredient supply shortages could have also played a role.
No matter the exact reasons, Walkers likely conducted market research and concluded beef and onion was no longer viable as part of their brand vision. But for diehard fans, this logic provides little comfort or solace.
Could This Beloved Flavor Eventually Make a Comeback?
Devastated beef and onion crisp fans still hold out hope that Walkers may reverse their decision based on consumer reactions. Some product experts point to examples of other discontinued foods making a comeback after backlash, like Surge soda.
If Walkers perceives sufficient demand and outcry for the return of their beef and onion crisps, there’s a chance they could reintroduce it as a limited edition or seasonal flavor. However, continuously manufacturing a specialized, lower-performing product may still not align with their business goals.
For now, crisp purists will likely have to turn to buying remaining stock of beef and onion crisps sold by independent retailers at inflated prices. Their only other option is bombarding Walkers with impassioned requests to walk back this devastating choice.
Seeking Out New Favorites In Place of Beef and Onion Crisps
As loyal beef and onion crisps fans continue to grieve this loss, some alternatives being suggested include:
- Walkers Max Strong English Mustard – for a mustard zing
- Walkers Max Baconnaise – offers smoky, sweet meaty notes
- Walkers Max Steakhouse Chicken Wings – provides tangy chicken flavor
- Walkers Max Buffalo Chicken Wings – spicy chicken wing taste
- Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli – mix of chili heat and sweetness
- Sensations Cajun Squirrel – intense peppery flavor
- Quavers Roast Chicken – similar poultry and herb flavors
However, most aggrieved snackers insist no other crisp can perfectly replace their beloved lost beef and onion flavor. For now, they will have to wrestle with no longer having this pub classic readily available for their crisps cravings.
The End of a Snacking Era
The discontinued production of Walkers beef and onion crisps undoubtedly marks the end of an era for many long-time fans across the UK. Having this familiar flavor axed without warning has left devotees reeling – and mobilizing futile social campaigns for its return.
For crisp purists who savored Walkers’ signature tangy onion and roast beef taste for years, no alternative snack can ever truly replace this sudden absence in stores. Walkers beef and onion crisps will live on fondly in the memories of heartbroken crisp enthusiasts, even if their production has ceased indefinitely.
This unfortunate discontinuation means a markedly less satisfying snacking experience for all those who grew up loving the exquisite balance found in Walkers’ beef and onion crisps.
Discontinued Walkers crisps we really miss:
Sizzling Steak Wotsits

Walkers confirmed in November 2023 that the popular crisps were no longer part of its product range. Fans were angry and said the meaty flavor was “much better” than the original Wotsits. Their hearts were breaking.

The ‘god tier’ level snack was axed in September 2023, with Walkers confirming the tragic news on Twitter. RIP. But Martin Lewis recently found a tasty alternative.
Salt & Vinegar Quavers

Walkers made this flavor for the first time in 1993, and it was sold on and off for years. In 2021, it made a big comeback along with the popular Prawn Cocktail Quavers. Despite their cult following and the successful relaunch, they were discontinued two years later.

“We know a lot of people loved Beef.”
They were responding to a customer on social media who had noticed they hadn’t been active, and fans weren’t happy about it.
This isn’t the first time this has happened; the snack was taken off the market in 2015 and then brought back. One Facebook support group called it “Walkers Beef.”
Last year, Walkers’ official social media account said they had “no comebacks” planned for the popular flavor but were “always listening” to what fans had to say.
But most recently, they seem to be teasing fans with the possibility of a comeback. In response to @Dan79608914 asking them to ‘bring back Fiery Sweet Chipotle please’, Walkers simply posted: ‘Noted’.
Of course, this doesn’t say for sure if the flavor will be made again, but it’s better than the flat “no” that was given before.
A Walkers spokesperson told Metro. co. uk: “We stopped making Walkers Mexican Fiery Sweet Chipotle Sensations more than ten years ago, but we’re glad fans still remember how much they liked the taste.” We can focus on making more of the flavors people love the most because our portfolio is always changing. ’.
People who like chocolate have just lost a treat because Cadbury pulled a “sensational” chocolate bar. Crisp lovers are also having a hard time right now.
In 2021, Dairy Milk Orange bars came out. They were made with “real orange oil” mixed into the classic Dairy Milk chocolate that we all know and love.
But it turns out they were quietly taken off the market in January of this year, and fans are only now realizing that they’re no longer available.
A representative for Mondelēz International said, “We are always changing our product line to keep up with changing tastes and help our customers grow.” ’.
When the flavor first came out, people on the NewFoodsUK Facebook page called it “great,” “yummy,” “delicious,” and a “sensational invention.”
