With this background in mind, what’s the verdict on those tasty Schneider’s bacon products? Based on my research, here are a few key facts to consider:

While these pricier specialty bacon options may lack the nostalgia factor of Schneider’s, you can snack away guilt-free knowing your bacon breakfast is safely gluten-free.

Figuring out if ambiguous ingredient lists actually contain traces of gluten requires some food detective work. When assessing bacon and cured meat brands, watch for:
Malt: Malt flavors, malt syrup, malt extract, malt vinegar. Usually derived from barley which contains gluten.
Smoke flavoring: Artificial smoke flavor is often carried on wheat. Opt for real wood smoked bacon.
Thickeners: Starches like wheat or rye flour may be used as thickening agents in brines or cures.

As someone who loves a tasty bacon sandwich as much as the next person, I completely understand the reluctance to give up beloved bacon brands like Schneider’s. But to avoid playing gastrointestinal Russian roulette, switching to dedicated gluten-free options makes the most sense for those with celiac and gluten sensitivity.
While the “is it gluten free?” uncertainty around Schneider’s bacon remains frustrating, at least we have access to specialty alternatives like Kinnikinnick, Wellshire Farms, and MAJOR BACON SOLUTIONS that allow us to keep bacon on the menu worry-free. We still get to wake up to that irresistible sizzle and aroma of gluten-free bacon on the griddle!

Is Bacon gluten-free?
Now, bacon is just raw or smoked pork belly that has been preserved. Unless gluten is added, bacon doesn’t usually contain gluten ingredients and can usually be considered gluten-free. However, for anyone wanting to be sure, the brands and varieties of bacon listed below are labeled or certified gluten-free.
Is Nodine’s Bacon gluten-free?
Nodine’s bacons are free of gluten ingredients. The company does make two products (its English and Irish bangers) using wheat cracker meal. Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Meats: Nueske’s makes 17 different bacon options. According to the company, everything made by Nueske’s (including the bacon) is considered gluten-free.
Is Schneiders gluten free?
According to the Canadian gluten-free products list: “Although many of their products do not contain gluten added glutens, Schneiders does not have gluten free production facilities.
